Our Eco Range of Packaging

At KB Packaging Sustainability is very important to us. All our factories are FSC certified and use all sustainability sourced materials.

Our Circular Framework

There are three main frameworks when it comes to packaging:

One is a LINEAR system. Raw materials enter production, the item is used and just as quickly discarded. This is called single use packaging. Being part of this economy, we are increasing carbon emissions which is a major contributor to climate change. By simply changing the way we produce and use packaging, we can reduce the waste generated in landfill and in turn, reduce the demand for new material production.

The second system is RECYCLING. Raw materials are put into production, the item is used, it is then recycled appropriately, reused and finally discarded. Although this a far greater improvement than that of the LINEAR economy, improvements can still be made.

The third is a CIRCULAR ECONOMY. This system focusses on promoting responsible consumption, reusing materials, reducing waste and regenerating resources. An example of this would be to ditch your single use plastic bags when shopping and use a more, eco-friendly alternative such as a cotton shopper. Another example would be to remove the need for disposable food cartons and replace them with plant-based containers.

Why is this important to you and what can businesses do to help?

Creating a strong brand perception and competitive edge

Based on the result of the Global Green Report (2021 younger consumers are 83% more likely to pay more if the packaging is sustainable. Your branding does not need to suffer by making the switch to more sustainable packaging, it only heightens your ethical commitment to looking after the planet.

Reducing freight storage and cost

With longer lasting and lighter weight materials, few loads are required – increasing profit and reducing the carbon footprint. Waste can be eliminated by being conscious of – is there an alternative? Do your research. Just because you’ve done something one way for years, it doesn’t mean it is the best or more efficient. Can I replace recyclable padded mailers for biodegradable packing peanuts? Is this both more cost effective in unit cost as well as dispatch cost?

Widen customer base

Circular solutions may appear more expensive than their plastic alternative but by doing the switch you are opening your consumer base by attracting new, eco-conscious buyers.  This means in the longer term, these affluential changes could potentially lead to business growth. By creating a product or model that celebrates longevity, you are showing your customer that you care about the environment whilst extending its shelf-life.

Making Compliance Regulations easier

As there are laws that require businesses to follow strict instructions on waste disposal, by switching to a circular framework, overall waste will reduce and therefore there will be less hazards to manage. By consuming less, you are consuming smarter.
